IF - shades

Not very original.
No
shades of meaning with clever interpretation.

IF - fluid

Fluid movement!

I'm not particularly pleased with this illustration.
I was trying to show the wonderful fluid movement of cats,
but it didn't turn out as I'd hoped and I didn't have time to start again!

Still, you can't learn without having a go!

IF - popularity

Popularity is fickle.

Organic wholemeal from the artisan baker
is obviously far superior to supermarket white sliced.

IF - forward

This is the last page in my sketchbook project 2012,
an illustration for the proverb
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

I thought that it was appropriate for this week's word - forward.

I've just uploaded the other pages of the sketchbook - click here to view them.

sketchbook project 2012

Yesterday I posted my sketchbook project 2012 - just in time.

I chose the topic 'Along the line' - I removed the original pages and made a
zig-zag book so that it can be pulled out into a continuous line.

My original idea was to take quotations including the word 'line' and
to have a go at illustrating them. But as I got into it, I realised that many of the quotes were by artists - so I adapted and used only those by artists and included anything that was about art.

I looked at the ideas and styles for each artist and then had a go m
yself. It was good fun and I learnt so much.

IF - vanity

I googled 'vanity' quotes and found this one from the 1700s -

I think it's absolutely relevant today!

IF - stay

How to stay dry!

In the UK we're quite used to doing this!

IF - remedy

The remedy for a broken heart - a tiny black kitten.

Tiger was a beautiful ginger tabby cat - a stray who chose to live with us -
and we all loved her.

One bitterly cold evening she didn't arrive home -
she had been hit by a car and didn't recover.

Our two other cats were broken-hearted - until the arrival of Ebony -
a beautiful tiny black kitten.

IF - layer

Layers of layers!

But which of the layers is the supreme layer of layers?

IF - chicken

She had always been a great thinker
and would spend much time pondering the mysteries of life.
Despite this, she was no nearer to solving the problem
of the chicken and the egg - which one did come first?

IF - savour

I wanted to capture the idea of savouring all that is good in life,

to indulge the senses and the spirit.

We should take heed of the poem by William Henry Davies that begins

What is this life if full of care

We have no time to stand and stare?

IF - sneaky

This is Monty. He's not really sneaky at all.
He's actually gentle and unassuming.

IF - burning again

Burning fever.

IF - burning

Burning issue.

The burning of fossil fuels - carbon footprints -
moving towards alternative sources of energy.
